When the situation calls for it, however, a good prime lens can be a Photographer's best friend. Not so long ago, the median Photographer avoided zoom lenses. Single-focal distance lenses, known as prime lenses, were faster, lighter and less expensive. More importantly, prime lenses offered superior sharpness and image quality.
